Update: I've found that this worked in plugin 1.1.2 and broke in 1.2.0. I've pushed branches "working-1.1.2" and "broken-1.2.0" so it's easy to switch between these versions.

Maybe someday - you're not the first to make this request, so I know there's interest out there. Leaving this issue open so people can comment on interest.
