The equivalent Ubuntu and Kubuntu installations do not exhibit this behaviour, as I've tested during the past couple of days, if this tip helps.

I have this same problem; "Switch User" doesn't work whilst using the `nvidia` proprietary driver. When switching to the open-source driver, it works. What's your configuration?
