Thanks for the feedback @SkybuckFlying. For reference this has been previously requested in https://github.com/desktop/desktop/issues/673. I'll leave this open and label it as an enhancement since the previous issue is closed.
This was reported again in #13016, and I was able to reproduce this issue as well.

@MathiAs2Pique unfortunately I was unable to reproduce this as well. Another related issue is https://github.com/desktop/desktop/issues/7691, which was specifically caused by diffing submodules.
@engineerpassion thanks for the issue. Usually this is caused by line-ending or file mode changes. You can try running `git config core.fileMode false` to see if ignoring file mode changes...
