Nice! [This blog post](https://highlyscalable.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/probabilistic-structures-web-analytics-data-mining/) describes the dyadic range approach as well. Apparently http://madlib.incubator.apache.org/ uses this algorithm to do range queries and estimate percentiles on big datasets.
Ah, this is a good catch. We need to add this as a test and fix it.
It might be a Kryo issue, I'm not sure.

That sounds good. I'll see if we can get this working today, figure out how to build elephant-bird and send over a pull request.
@johnynek, if you guys are good, I think we should do this. I've got elephant-bird working with my code and wip-226 (plus a mahout exclusion).
Maybe @regadas can post a link to a build that failed and triggered this issue, but flaky here means that the failure is random and intermittent due to generative testing....
