the history of visited directories should be done through all broot sessions. Perhaps the oldest maybe dropped to constrain the size.
....and perhaps the CDPATH entries....?
if you have installed archivemount, you could configure it in your conf.toml: [[verbs]] invocation = "archivemount" shortcut = "am" external = "am.sh {file-name}" leave_broot = false auto_exec = true set_working_dir...
That feature would be a great enhancement for me, too.
