What versions of HA and var integration are you using? How are you trying to update the variable entity?

Attribute values are template strings which can evaluate to non-string values.

I think this is now fixed in the latest dev version of the var component, if you're willing to give it a try.

Sorry, I don't have a good idea why this would happen for this component, but not others. Which version of it did you install? Have you installed it before?
