@diegomagela I think I found the problem :) I am currently in lockdown so I should've time to make a pull request sometime this week
I had no time to investigate further, turns out it is actually (at least for me) the d-bus message not firing at all when the background changes
I recently had to reinstall d-bus deb package. Curiously, that fixed the issue at least in my case.
I suspect this is related to how latest versions of libadwaita theme certain widgets I solved it with a temporary hack using a custom css additions (in the advanced panel)...
