What's a non standard wav? For reading the waves I'm using the standard python library. No, it can not read the file from the stdin.

Maybe they have modified the validation.
Is a problem with ffmpeg, it oversamples to 32bit and print 32bit
The information printed by ffmpeg is always 32bit. Actually ffmpeg is installed (by default) on all linux distro, and is the most practical way the read the audio metadata.
At the moment you can download the current version from this repo. I'll try to update the Ububtu package "sooner"
try with: > git clone https://github.com/simon-r/dr14_t.meter.git > cd dr14_t.meter > ./dr14_tmeter
Ask to a Debian developer. For me is surely OK! But ... I use ArchLinux.
