In the meantime I have a script ([Github gist](https://gist.github.com/sietsevdschoot/acf0daa46c5e678d7878530a2173c03e)) to fix the problem using exported Gmail .vcf contacts to replace contactnames after running the Whatsapp Chat Exporter.
