the deploy script is pretty much broken and abandoned (someone needs to PR a working version), you have to download it and make the appropriate changes yourself

yes you need to forward the mining ports on your router in order to be able to connect and mine

nothing on the pool needs to be changed AFAIK, you can update your daemon without issues
