I'd value support for this as well; the `BGZF` file format is `gunzip` compatible and the specs are [here](https://samtools.github.io/hts-specs/SAMv1.pdf). The `tabix` index is published [here](bioinformatics.oxfordjournals.org/content/27/5/718.full).
