Would this give useful aggregated information about misbehaving bots, e.g. their IP addresses for blocking purposes? I think that's the main use I'd have for it.

I'm experimenting with working around this by using an external (to MediaWiki) service to render and serve the images: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Diagrams

This should now be fixed I think. @WulfmanGer can you test with the most recent master?
