I totally agree with those points @nakedible-p @thaJeztah @stevvooe, they should not be treated specially by docker, they're just arbitrary strings really, but other tooling (e.g. deployment systems) can use...

A wider issue seems to be that the reported "default" isn't really true, as using the so-called default value fails.
