The `withAttributes()` function completely overwrites the attributes on the component. I think it should be changed to merge them instead but I imagine this might be considered a breaking change...

I quite like this, but I think it's best to stick to SQL like function names. Although it's more verbose, it's clearer and fits the paradigm better.
