allow different multiple authors for chapters (for edited volumes)
know @yihui is (rightly) loathe to add too much cruft to this package, and to keep the formatting simple, but I just have to ask:
Can we get multiple authors per chapter?
That would be great, so I can invite some people to co-write a chapter with me.
Generally, this would also make bookdown perfect for edited volumes which are generally a PITA to organise and could benefit hugely from using bookdown.
I guess the whole Google Authorship (is that even still a thing) and other such metadata would be a little thornier.
Actually I like this feature request! I have had this pain myself for several years!
Any progress on this or suggestions on alternative solutions?
No. I haven't had a chance to work on it yet.
Hi, @yihui. Any suggestions on where to work if we wanted to contribute to this issue? I haven't looked at all into the possibilities yet and am being lazy by asking, but....
@seandavi This does not sound like a trivial project for me, and I'm afraid I won't be able to work on it until 6 months later. There are a few things that you may help:
-
Find a minimal LaTeX template for a contributed book (each chapter written by different authors) and show me how it works. A pure LaTeX example is good to me (I don't need R Markdown at this point). The R Journal is one possible example. I have worked with Chapman & Hall, and I know they have a LaTeX class for contributed books, but I only contributed a chapter to a book, and I don't know to combine all chapters into a book as an editor.
LaTeX is the major challenge in this project. I think other formats like HTML / EPUB / Word should be easier.

You can also contribute indirectly by helping me answer questions on Github and StackOverflow. If I don't have to take care of Github issues (of more than a dozen of packages I maintain) or StackOverflow questions, I can probably get this done in a month :)
@yihui maybe this could help: https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/156862/displaying-author-for-each-chapter-in-book
@sonsoleslp:
Any news on this issue?
If so I guess you'd find them here. No need to spam 115 people. :wink:
