In tree gentoo ROS

ROS has been part of the official gentoo tree for quite a while. At the beginning it was quite incomplete. Is that still the case? Are there any reasons for not using the gentoo ROS? (I can see one that is there is no choice which version of ROS it installs).

Any comments on this would be more than appreciated.

This so far is emerging, but installs kinetic!
