serial port connection

Is there any plan to support serial port connection? I'm going to use SPAN-CPT but it isn't have ethernet port. http://www.novatel.com/products/span-gnss-inertial-systems/span-combined-systems/span-cpt/#overview If there isn't any plan, can I implement and push it?

what format of data does this novatel_span_driver requires?

that is to say, the driver node get data from SPAN-CPT in Binary format or Assic format?
