This is a bug in MrBayes versions up to version 3.2.2. The bug was fixed in version 3.2.3. The tutorial is unfortunately based on the older version with the bug.

On second thought, I am leaving this open, as a reminder to correct the manual.

A possible reason is that the convergence diagnostic is running out of memory. You can run the convergence diagnostics after the run has completed instead, by relaunching mrbayes and then...

Issue 112 fixed but it seems like there is an additional issue with the run hanging after some generations with this dataset. I will look into this.

Thanks! I converted the file to Phylip format and that worked! Maybe add something in the documentation about this, unless the default behavior is changed? I regard the datatype statement...
