I do not think we should document this unofficial client lib. I prefer users to stick to our main implementation.

official/unofficial is known in the prometheus ecosystem, I don't feel like changing the terminology here.

Indeed. Digest requires an extra roundtrip and does not bring added value. If you want to secure the authorization please use basic auth with tls.
