lint warnings et al in c code

when I merged #72 splint generated a few warnings. I'll add the issue that we should use lint-checkers against the code in the future and fix the warnings we encounter....

I was playing a bit after updating from 1.4.156 to the latest as for now. I did a selftest and the cable was not connected between RF I/O and CAL....
