I'm retracting this PR since it seems from the recent IA things that the design team has other plans for subspaces anyways, which I'd rather not get in the way...

Was the `~/.config/Element` directory already existing? Is there a `~/.config/Riot` directory you could try putting the config in?
Hi @spiffyfrodo, when you say the application version is "webapp version + flatpak 1.11.41", does that mean that you can reproduce this issue on app.element.io in your browser as well?...
