According to Node.js / io.js `fs.existsSync()` will be deprecated.
When I open a permalink in a new window/tab all the images are gone :(  
They can be used to provide useful information. For example, if the project is "mobile-first" put the smartphone icon first... and so on. Does this make any sense?
