I _just_ installed pidgin and this plugin, and ran into the same issue (on ubuntu). The fix for https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook/issues/498 (bump fb_orca_agent version string) works for me!
Just a warning, there already is a Mail::SendGrid on CPAN: https://metacpan.org/module/Mail::SendGrid
