Alright, looks like I found a way to reproduce. You need to restart the OS with the option to reopen windows when logging back in. 
Still reproducible with the latest build and same steps.
There are no events that cause it to reappear. The reappearing chat is only on the desktop app, not in the iOS app. I cannot see any messages from that...
