Closing as the original reporter has not responded in over six months and the report is for a version two (soon to be three) releases ago.
No further reports in over a year, darktable has had two releases with lots of changes since. If this should still be a problem, we can reopen the issue.

The crash is in libjpeg rather than in darktable code, so this needs to be reported to that project.
