I suspect you encountered bug https://github.com/aaptel/qtwirediff/issues/1 . This has been worked around in #6, so I think it's worth testing latest version.
It just occurred to me that easiest way out might be _removing_ the variable.
Speaking from experience with other DNS projects, you might want to mention e.g.: - if it affects multiple implementations tell us upfront - it requires multi-party coordination and sometimes reporters...
