German umlauts in source las leads to invalid bounding box

Open Neralem opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

If the las source path contains german umlauts [ä, Ä, ö, Ö, ü, Ü] the conversion process fails with the message "invalid bounding box. At least one axis has a size of zero." And indeed it says 0 in all dimensions: image

It does not matter if the output path has those characters in it... this works. Notice that the shown file size is correct...so it can find the file somehow. Any idea?

This is a big problem for me because german names often have those characters and if the las file is in a subfolder of the user directory, it fails.

Edit: The LAS file used is absolutely valid and causes no problems if I move it to a different folder. Also tried it with several other las files.

Well. I have fiddling with this problem for almost a entire week and was not able to figure what was happening.

Thank you very much for figuring out what was causing this issue!

I just had the same problem too - it would be ideal if the error reflected the cause in this case. For example, I tried using lasinfo to repair the bounding box to fix the problem and lasinfo straight up reported that it couldn't read the path (which contained Icelandic characters).
