Seems to have gotten lost in the 21.10 version, but is still present in 21.04.
Apparently it's something recent GNOME did to restrict dbus calls: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/commit/a628bbc4 Entering `global.context.unsafe_mode = true` in Looking Glass allows them to work, but that's not a very good workaround.
