IMHO, stdout should always be for anything that is payload data that you'd want to pipe somewhere or write to a file and stderr for anything that isn't, such as...
Errors should be communicated via return codes. What we could also do is -q for no output and -qq for no error output.
Could potentially be done with keychain integration. It's certainly a lot less secure, because the security of your database depends only on the strength of your login password.
We're aware of Weblate and we tried a move some years ago. But there were several technical issues (might be resolved now), and there is a larger community on Transifex....
