Pretty bold move. I think Textpattern 4.9 could easily move to at least PHP 7.0, possibly higher if it makes coding and new features easier.

Do it in 4.9 is my vote. Firefox had removed Flash support entirely in latest v85 Dev Edition (which evolves to standard edition in January 2021).
