Both will do do. In fact, utilising both methods (transparently) would probably be the way to go. Again, it's up to you :-)

Same _should_ be the case when dragging (as opposed to hitting export) the SVG to, say, desktop.

Confirmed. Not related to the caveats since it's evident on both Safari and Chrome.
