Just got the same error... I'm launching django projects in lambdas, not 1st time with this great project zappa :) But 1st time found that **zappa package demo -o app.zip**...

@dtnewman in my experience, S3 more stable, than my solutions, and probably then yours :) so you can try to debug, when it failed, without redeploy... may be separate route...
