OK, so I got my development environment sorted out enough (thanks to dgangl & Neui on IRC/Matrix) to launch it in the VS Code debugger and dug into the code....

Or, y'know, Amazon could pay Docker for a Docker hub account commensurate with their volume of requests and ability to pay...
