Advanced Digitizing in QField

Open sonicnkt opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the Feature

QGis has (since Version 3.X i think) integrated some advanced (CAD Like) digitizing features. For Example you can specify the length of features, specify or snap to angles, set specific coordinates and a construction mode.

In Qfield you can already create points at specific coordinates by using the search feature but more advanced digitizing would be really awesome to have in the field.

In our fieldwork we often want to stakeout lines with a specific length or stake out some right angled squares with specific site length. Usually we create those in advanced based on satellite imagery, orthophotos or other data, but often those have to be corrected because of vegetation or other obstacles in the field we did not or could not consider before because of the data that was available.

Qfield allready added in the last month a feature to precisely stake out existing points, this could be used for "advanced digitizing" as well.

I would imagine it to work something like this: Set start point, move the cursor in your desired direction and lock the "angle" to the cursor position (or custom input if you want for example 90°), then set the specific distance you want for this line/segment and qfield would generate the point/node.

I could create some mockup images if their is interested in this.

I something like this planned? Do other have use for this?

Hello,

When I need specific shapes, I use symbology, to display information on the map. For example, for a square I'll add a field for the surface, another for the rotation, or anything else. I use the values used in these field to visualize a symbol (but it doesn't really exist). In my situation, usually, the field work isn't accurate and is used to bring information to the office, where I can create proper polygons and work with "office layers".

I say this to give you some ideas, if you didn't already though about it.

In your case, maybe advanced digitizing makes more sense than in my work.

There is also some previous information about this in https://github.com/opengisch/QField/issues/1846 and also feedback from others that this is of interest. There is no funding available yet.

@sonicnkt , FYI, snapping to common angle has been added in QField for a couple of versions.

@sonicnkt , the next version of QField has gained a COGO framework with several cogo operations (intersection of 2 circles, distance/angle/elevation from point, and XYZ).
