It has come much further 2nd time (still running). Using 20+gb of RAM and maxing CPU.   Never mind, there it crashed. At least it showed a error message...
Trying Standard mode now. Seems like there is a hefty memory leak, RAM is skyrocketing now. We're talking +100MB every 5 seconds. No, it actually seems to be exponential. ...

Oh, here is the settings I had with Standard mode 
One should not call uninstall if it's not installed: Don't change behavior, this is user error.

Shield TV with latest update (5.1) + TvAppRepo v1.0.6 (opencommunity) = Still crashes Even tried uninstalling the whole app, then install. Crashes right after it asks for permissions.
I got some intel that might help you iron out this bug: I think it's the youtube phone app that crashes it, at least on my nVidia Shield TV. Here...
