Self posts are one of the best features of HN.

By self posts I assume you mean being able to submit free-form text without a link? If so, I agree wholeheartedly. We definitely need to add those.

Exactly! I think self posts is what Reddit calls them. The discussions on those are often way better than on standard posts with links.
