my guy this pr is almost a year old and the last commit to this project was 10 months ago - you should look for an another client as gomuks...
having a similar problem you need to flash the kernel image first, not the sysupgrade image (wiki is incorrect) you can then ssh into the openwrt but im not sure...

I understand that, the previous implementation did **not** work properly (and idk how to fix it), so I commented it out and left a to-do note so someone who knows...
