I think it's recommended to apply the copper tape on the **underside** of the keys. Capacitive sensing doesn't need direct contact with the copper tape so it should be fine....

IIRC probably not? HT2 uses both channels on the serial connection for stereo audio. Conceivably, you could forget about stereo and a single wire for whatever sync signal you want....
