can you try gphoto2 --set-config d222=17 --capture-image and see if it stays in the camea card?

(This is decoded as "capturetarget" option in libgphoto2 2.5.24 or later, but octoprint might be a bit behind in versions.)

in git i am listing them, but took them from the EOS M6 Mark2 ... they read a bit different for 16, 18 and 24 :/ needs perhaps a seperate...

What did you change? might be a permission issue i think. as for new files, what filename? Either workaround it, or use --filename .... option

d1ac would be the shuttercount value ... while it is reported, it has no content in the trace. I am not sure this is possible.

I looked at the attached logfiles and the d1ac property is reported as empty. I also looked over the other properties and none show out as containing shuttecount level values....

This does not show anything changing in this area. I did some research, stumbled over some things but cant reproduce it with my 750D. You could however try: gphoto2 --set-config...
