I'm using macOS Mojave. FWIW, the Get Info pane (i.e. Finder's) has trouble with this as well, i.e. setting default app for a PDF file to "Preview" (for ex) immediately...

### 🐛 Bug This might be an issue which could cause problems in the future I guess. As far as I can see utils.py has been last touched 4y ago....
