I think this can be done using built in electron notification https://github.com/electron/electron/blob/master/docs/api/notification.md. I can have a look at it later.
Maybe this was an internet connection issue? I have just tried myself, it works fine: @jamonholmgren he seems to be using Bowser based on the screenshot.
