Can you run the retropie.sh script again from commandline to see if there is any error please. Also it might be better to have this discussion in the forum.

Try to start emulationstatipn from commandline after shutting down kodi manually.

You need a swapfile.

Then do the install again or just build emulationstation alone (from retropie-setup menu)
