Esprima would throw an error and jscs would propagate it, you could check for the parser error and do the nop otherwise autofix it.
Come to think of it, there is another way to try, take user selection, if it has parser bugs - iteratively increase the selection until it stops showing parser bugs,...
Tried it, failed, first of all there is lots of inconsitancies we have in the core and `indent` autofix feature is not ideal and second of all we need https://github.com/eslint/eslint/issues/6690...
This shouldn't be a blocker for jquery/jquery#1837
