Ok, I'll tidy up the changes I've made and open a PR. Probably quicker to do that than explain the answers to the questions.

FYI #1488 was closed without implementing this.

No worries. I looked at implementing myself but it was well beyond my skills without a lot of help. More than happy to help with testing though.
