I'll close this PR for now since all these changes are related to the Studio Legacy FE, and we'd prefer the new Studio MFE to support this instead.

Update: We've been working on the issue [here](https://github.com/openedx/edx-platform/pull/33354), but we can't reproduce the error deterministically, so we can't move forward until we have detailed instructions that help the reviewer reproduce...
