A pdn ring is not mandatory for connecting to a macro. There are test cases in ORFS that show otherwise.

If you remove all the botom rows then you change the core area today afaik. The core area is the bbox of the rows.

What makes you think the core area is dynamic? The rows will start where you specify. The only dynamic thing is the right/top will be trimmed to a site/row multiple....
The rows are cut by the macro but if you look at floorplan you will see they are as specified. You can't have rows on top of a macro.
I'm open to storing the core area. I think it easier to just store the bbox originally given rather than a polygon. @eder-matheus are you doing anything in this regard...
