Color doesn't apply to buttons. First letter is red, all text is gray (almost as button background)

yep, repro'd. seems that in the ZIP bundle linked in the README, `buttons.less:21` declares `.btn::first-letter` to have `color: #aa0000`.

plots look different on OSX retina vs. non-retina displays

Please include screenshots or information on exactly _how_ they look different.
