@topcat001, I don't have the * symbol in title or balloons in debian sid, only garbled text in FvwmIconMan Balloons. `fvwm3 1.0.4 (released) with support for: ReadLine, XPM, PNG, SVG,...

So its name is TipsFont in FvwmIconMan.   Beside * symbol problem, only title disappearing problem left now. It's enough for me to use it normally, thank you.

Didn't notice the name was different before, maybe you can consider adding TipsFont line in the default config? Below `*FvwmIconMan: Tips needed` line.
