I was able to recreate the issue with repeatable groups. Is this fork still being actively worked on? I would really like this functionality.

subrepo push without changes creates branch which prevents further pushes

I had this issue and it was sooooooo confusing. I now believe that this is caused by making changes in the subrepo and then calling 'git add, commit, and push'...
