pple64 support for minimap2

Hi

Thanks for this great bit of software. I know it sounds like a funny request but I would like to compile minimap2 on our power9 GPU nodes - essentially to run medaka - I realise this will make it slower but it would be very useful

Could this functionality be added please?

I can now see that others have requested the same - I would be happy to set up access to our power9 nodes if it helps?

I really want to see it too. I can recommend to bundle simde (SIMD Everywhere) in this repository, to build and run minimap2 on PowerPC (ppc64le). bowtie2 is using it to build and run bowtie2 on PowerPC (ppc64le) and IBM Z (s390x).

simde as system library is going to be available.

  • libsimde-dev in Debian (only development version for now). Then Ubuntu can take it.
  • simde-devel in Fedora (and EPEL). I am the maintainer. Then CentOS can take it.
